Titanium is a metal that generates a very light layer of almost negligible oxide, a kind of protective film for the metal, stable and absolutely non-toxic. If a titanium product is scratched with a sharp object or scouring pad, this outer layer is affected and a scratch can be seen. This layer of oxide is created again in that area, although it is not visible to the naked eye, it is one of the characteristics of titanium in contact with air and reinforces its biocompatibility.
