Description
Orange button of L'Herbier de France has been cultivated in China for at least 4000 years. The bark, dried green (Qing pi), or ripe (Chen pi), is a famous medicinal plant, which stimulates qi, and facilitates digestion. Over the centuries, explorers have brought back from their distant journeys these trees with flowers with such a delicate aroma and fruit so powerfully scented. The bitter orange tree, which we now call bigaradier, arrived in Europe first, via India; Persia gave it its name (the word "orange" is a deformation of narandj in Persian), the Arabs brought it to Sicily and Italy (where it became arancio) then in Provence, in the 11th century, at the time of the Crusades.
Indication
In the 16th century the Portuguese brought this sweet orange, our orange, from Ceylon. Its success was such that we forgot the bitter orange, the bitter orange, which we only use to accentuate the scent of our orange jams. It was also in the 16th century that we got into the habit of using the name of the fruit to designate the color orange. But it is on the bigaradier that the leaves and flower buds of our herbal teas are harvested. Orange tea is the friend of our sleep.
